« Fresh Pineapple, Preserved 5 Ways. | Main | I forget how busy September can be! »

    Whewwww. I'm back!

    Happy 2014.

Where, oh where, did the last 3 months go?

I took a break from blogging weekly for several reasons; some of them planned, some of them not-so-planned. I knew we were going to have a very busy September, but then in October we had to put our sweet old Pug Shumai to sleep....and my world turned upside-down.

Shumai teaching Chuck the fine art of lounging, a few days before she died.

Knowing I was going to have to put her to sleep, we did something completely irrational.

    We bought a puppy.

For the first few days, I was convinced that bringing a puppy into the house was making Shumai feel better, but after a week or so, I realized she was still ready to cross over the Rainbow Bridge and join our rescue boy Gizzy, who we had to put to sleep the year before.

Thank goodness I have many happy reminders of the Pugs all around the house, like this postcard I made of the two of them a couple years ago:

It probably goes without saying, but we miss the Pugs terribly.
Chuck, the new puppy, is a bundle of energy and he's been a much-needed diversion. In fact, I think he's kept me busier than I was when I had 3 boys under the age of 5!

If you've ever had an Australian Shepherd puppy, I don't need to explain to you why you haven't heard from me since September.

May I present you with Exhibit #1:

So far, Chuck doesn't seem to share the same love of fruits & veggies that the Pugs did, but he's proving to be quite a character. Expect to see more of him in future blog posts.

Gizzy, asking if he can have a fresh-picked huckleberry. As usual, Shumai dove right in!
